Free P5 Maths paper: Fractions
A full Paper 1 and Paper 2 at the level of a hard P5 end-of-year paper, in the PSLE format, for Singapore P5 pupils. 29 of the 100 marks are on fractions; the rest cover the other P5 topics, as a real paper does.

The focus: 29 marks on fractions, across both papers, from one-mark multiple choice to a five-mark final question. Also in the paper: Area and perimeter, Measurement, Data tables and graphs, Percentage, Whole numbers, Triangles and quadrilaterals, Rate, Volume, Decimals, Angles.
Timing is up to you. Sit it in one go against the PSLE times for exam practice, or spread it over a few evenings as class homework is.
Where the marks go in fractions
In P5, fractions turn into word problems: a fraction of what is left, two fractions of two amounts that turn out equal, and mixed numbers in lengths and volumes. Most marks are lost by taking a fraction of the wrong whole.
The mistakes this paper looks for
- Taking the second fraction of the whole amount when the question says of the remainder
- Multiplying only the whole number part of a mixed number
- Giving the amount at first when the question asks for one of the parts

Paper 1, Question 11 (2 marks). Jun spent 1/5 of a sum of money on a school bag and 3/5 of the remaining money on a calculator. Jun had $128 left. How much money did Jun have at first?

Take the sum as 25 units. The school bag: 1/5 of 25 units = 5 units, leaving 20 units.
The calculator: 3/5 of 20 units = 12 units, leaving 8 units.
8 units = $128, so 1 unit = $16
At first: 25 × $16 = $400
