Free P5 Maths paper: Rate
A full Paper 1 and Paper 2 at the level of a hard P5 end-of-year paper, in the PSLE format, for Singapore P5 pupils. 29 of the 100 marks are on rate; the rest cover the other P5 topics, as a real paper does.

The focus: 29 marks on rate, across both papers, from one-mark multiple choice to a five-mark final question. Also in the paper: Whole numbers, Percentage, Volume, Measurement, Fractions, Triangles and quadrilaterals, Decimals, Area and perimeter, Data tables and graphs, Angles.
Timing is up to you. Sit it in one go against the PSLE times for exam practice, or spread it over a few evenings as class homework is.
Where the marks go in rate
Rate in P5 goes past simple unit rates: car park and taxi charges in steps, water charged at two rates, a tap filling while a hole drains, and machines working together. Each charge has its own first step, and any part of a half hour counts as a whole one.
The mistakes this paper looks for
- Not charging the part of a half hour
- Charging the first hour at the later rate
- Taking an hour as 100 minutes

Paper 1, Question 11 (2 marks). Machine A makes 24 toys in 6 minutes. Machine B makes 32 toys in 4 minutes. Both machines start at the same time. How many minutes will they take to make 240 toys together?

Machine A: 24 ÷ 6 = 4 toys a minute. Machine B: 32 ÷ 4 = 8 toys a minute.
Together: 4 + 8 = 12 toys a minute
240 ÷ 12 = 20 minutes

- What we diagnosed: the mistakes the wrong answers point to, such as stopping a step early or taking a fraction of the wrong whole.

The score is free for everyone. The full diagnosis is sent to a parent's email, and nothing else is done with the details.
