Free P5 Maths paper: Volume of cubes, cuboids and liquid

The focus: 29 marks on volume of cubes, cuboids and liquid, across both papers, from one-mark multiple choice to a five-mark final question. Where the marks go in volume
Volume in P5 is cubes, cuboids and liquid in tanks, always worked forward from the lengths. The marks go on the conversion (1 litre is 1000 cm³), on using the depth of the water rather than the height of the tank, and on the room that stones or cubes sunk in the water take up.
The mistakes this paper looks for
- Taking 1 litre as 100 cm³
- Using the height of the tank instead of the depth of the water
- Dividing the volume of a box by the edge of a cube, not by its volume

Paper 1, Question 14 (2 marks). A tank is 1/8 full of water. After 27 ℓ of water is poured in, the tank is 1/2 full. How much water can the tank hold when it is full?

The water poured in fills 1/2 − 1/8 = 3/8 of the tank.
3/8 of the tank is 27 ℓ, so 1/8 of the tank is 27 ÷ 3 = 9 ℓ.
