Free P4 Maths paper: Area and perimeter of rectilinear figures
A full Paper 1 and Paper 2 at the level of a very hard P4 end-of-year paper, in the PSLE format, for Singapore P4 pupils. 29 of the 100 marks are on area and perimeter of rectilinear figures; the rest cover the other P4 topics, as a real paper does.

Timing is up to you. Sit it in one go against the PSLE times for exam practice, or spread it over a few evenings as homework is.
Where the marks go in area and perimeter
Composite figures made of rectangles and squares carry the area and perimeter marks: a border round a garden, a square cut from a corner, rectangles joined or overlapping. Finding the missing lengths in the figure is the skill.
The mistakes this paper looks for
- Thinking a square cut from a corner changes the perimeter
- Finding a border's area without taking away the inner rectangle
- Mixing up area and perimeter

Paper 1, Question 14 (2 marks). A rectangular garden is 17 m long and 11 m wide. A path 3 m wide is built all the way round the outside of the garden. What is the area of the path?

The garden and path together make a rectangle 17 + 3 + 3 = 23 m long and 11 + 3 + 3 = 17 m wide.
Outer rectangle: 23 × 17 = 391 m². Garden: 17 × 11 = 187 m².
Path: 391 − 187 = 204 m²

- Area and perimeter of rectilinear figures skill by skill, apart from the rest of the paper.
