Free P4 Maths paper: Time and the 24-hour clock
A full Paper 1 and Paper 2 at the level of a very hard P4 end-of-year paper, in the PSLE format, for Singapore P4 pupils. 29 of the 100 marks are on time and the 24-hour clock; the rest cover the other P4 topics, as a real paper does.

The focus: 29 marks on time and the 24-hour clock, across both papers, from one-mark multiple choice to a five-mark final question. Also in the paper: Whole numbers, Area and perimeter, Angles, Fractions, Pie charts, Nets and solids, Data tables and graphs, Symmetry, Decimals.
Timing is up to you. Sit it in one go against the PSLE times for exam practice, or spread it over a few evenings as homework is.
Where the marks go in time and 24-hour clock
Time is taught in P3, and P4 papers still use it: the 24-hour clock, durations across the hour, noon and midnight, and timetables. The mistake is almost always treating an hour as 100 minutes.
The mistakes this paper looks for
- Subtracting times as if an hour had 100 minutes
- Going past midnight without starting again from 00 00
- Counting the hours between two times one too many
Try a question from this paper
Paper 1, Question 15 (2 marks). A concert had 4 parts. Each part lasted 55 minutes, and there was a 20-minute break between one part and the next. The concert ended at 18 00. At what time did the concert start?
- 13 00
- 13 20
- 14 20
- 22 40

4 parts have 3 breaks between them: 3 × 20 = 60 min
Altogether 220 + 60 = 280 min = 4 h 40 min
Count back from 18 00: 18 00 − 4 h 40 min = 13 20
